Latest Nature’s Classroom Summer Day Camps 2016

WHERE: All camps will be held at Nature’s Classroom Outdoor Environmental Studies Center, 13100 Verges Road, Thonotosassa, FL 33592 (located off Fletcher Ave./Morris Bridge Rd., approx. 1.5 miles east of I-75).

WHEN: All programs will run from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Early Explorations half-day camps will run from 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

These are not sleep-over camps. Parents are responsible for daily transportation of student(s).

TENTATIVE DATES:

  • Session 1: June 20-23
  • Session 2: June 27-30
  • Session 3: July 5-8 (Tuesday through Friday)
  • Session 4: July 11-14

HOW: Applications with payments will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will not be able to “reserve spots in the camps.” DEADLINE: Applications with payments must be received by May 20, 2016. Mail completed applications with payments (checks or money orders) to:

REFUNDS CAN ONLY BE GIVEN IF THE CLASS IS CANCELLED. letters will be sent to you at a later date in May.

**NOTE: ALL programs are conducted in an outdoor environment. There are no cafeterias or facilities for making food on campus, so students will need to bring their own bagged lunches with drinks each day.


Early Explorations ½ day camps
A.M. Session: 8:00 – 11:30
— OR–
P.M. Session 11:30 – 3:00
Cost $70.00
Exiting Pre-K – 1st grade

Our youngest adventurers will develop observation skills, beginning awareness and basic knowledge of the many wonders in the world around them. Hands-on explorations will occur indoors and outdoors.
Minimum of 15 students per session.


Survival Camp (Primitive Skills)
Cost: $141.00
Exiting 4th – 7th grade

Come on an outdoor adventure as you learn primitive survival skills in the Florida wilderness. Food resources, fire building, methods of finding and conserving water, and shelter building will be highlighted. Additional activities may include: tracking, hiking, animal/plant identification and orienteering.
Minimum of 15 students per session


Wilderness Camp (Pioneer Skills)
Cost: $141.00
Exiting 4th – 7th grade

Discover Florida through activities of the pioneers. Make homemade root beer, butter, ice-cream, soap and rope. Build a camp fire to cook your lunch, shoot a bow and arrow, and explore the woods to discover the natural resources from plants and animals in Florida’s woods.
Minimum of 15 students per session


SWFWMD Water Adventure Camp
Cost: FREE (SWFWMD Sponsored)
Exiting 4th – 7th grade

Come experience Florida’s amazing water resources, animals and plant communities within the Hillsborough River Watershed. Participants will enjoy a boating adventure, shoreline sampling and an off-site field trip to Crystal Springs Preserve. Each student allowed to attend one session only.
Minimum of 15 students per session


Archery Camp
Cost: $141.00
Exiting 4th – 8th grade

Students will be given basic archery skills using the National Archery in Schools Program, proper shooting techniques and safety techniques. Archery equipment will be provided.
Minimum of 15 students per session


Outdoor Skills Camp (Present Skills)
Cost: $166.00 Exiting 5th – 8th graders

This camp will focus on many present-day activities and skills of the outdoors, such as: canoeing, tent camping, archery, hiking and orienteering/GPS and camp-side activities. (Cost includes canoe rental fee.)
Minimum of 15 students per session


Young Naturalist Camp
Cost: $141.00
Exiting 1st – 3rd grade

Young naturalist will be immersed in the great outdoors as they participate in nature walks, scavenger hunts, animal encounters, games, and crafts while learning about the amazing flora and fauna that make Florida home.
Minimum of 15 students per session
